According to the Bittorrent site Animesuki.com, Media Blasters announced this morning at Katsucon that they have licenced Ah! My Goddess TV. According to their policies, Animesuki has removed this title from their site. While this is rather dissapointing in the short term, as most of the more respectable fansub groups will drop the series as well, in the long term this means that someone has recognised the enduring popularity of the series. This is one AMG fan who will be looking for more news of the release. If anyone else finds out more news, please keep this thread going.

I'd be happier if someone who did a better job on translating had the rights. I'd really be happier if the company that bought it hadn't done so as a 'Loss Leader'.

Being an announced loss leader doesn't have to be a negative development. It often means they're going to shoot the works on the series, whistles, bells, and all the frills, without worrying too much about getting their investment back real quick.
The goal is to turn out the best possible version they can to impress people who might not be too impressed with their company right now (like you). So they've obtained what they know is a high profile property with a large fan base, and will now do everything they can to make their release version everything any fan could want. (sound, dubbing, subtitles, the works)
The idea being to show that they can produce a top notch product and hopefully convince the anime consumers of the English speaking world to buy their other series.
I've got high hopes they'll do a great job on this. Heaven help them if they don't
