I do Computer Games Technology at university and one of I disagreeignments is to do a design document. Well, I let my overobsession with Rind-sama influence me........big bad idea! ;D
Anyway, this is a small exerpt from I disagreeignment for your perusal. It'll give you a basic summary of the game idea behind the image.
Enjoy!
High Concept
Goddess of the Axe will be designed as a 3rd-Person Action-Adventure game with some elements of puzzle solving and cinematic storyline development. The player will be expected to use all the means at their disposal to solve puzzles, defeat opponents and to make their way through a variety of locations in order to achieve the objective which they had set out to do.
Design Treatment
A 3rd-Person Action-Adventure, Goddess of the Axe casts the player as Rind, a ‘Battle Goddess’ or Valkyrie. Rind will immediately be recognisable to fans of Kosuke Fujishima’s manga (graphic novel) ‘Oh My Goddess,’ which has seen huge success worldwide. Rind will also hold appeal for a wider audience due to her character design and her abilities.
The player will be tasked with guiding Rind through a variety of different locations in order to restore the ten dimensions of reality back into their rightful alignment. Along the way she will have to defeat opponents, solve puzzles and try to make some sense of what is happening around her. With reality shifting, very strange things can – and sometimes will – happen.
Rind has at her disposal three very powerful abilities. Firstly she is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant, with the battleaxe as her favoured weapon. Secondly, she supports a pair of Angels, upon whom she can call to help her if need be. Finally, she will later in the game have access to Yggdrasil, the supercomputer of heaven. Yggdrasil has the power to control reality, which will allow Rind to alter reality around her in order to achieve an objective. Don’t have a bridge across that deep canyon? Just create one!
The game’s appeal will come partly from the universe in which it is based. Kosuke Fujishima’s Oh My Goddess universe is superbly crafted with a ground in real, high-level physics theory. The mix of high-physics coupled with a colourful and endearing cast of characters, along with a superb and hilarious storyline have ensured the manga series’ success both in its native Japan and elsewhere in the world, particularly the United States and Europe.
These three locations represent the lion’s share of the videogame-playing market and so a game that appeals heavily to all three locations should do very well.
The game cannot rely on the franchise however, and must be able to stand on its own two feet in terms of a product. That is why special attention will be paid to the crafting of the game world and the options available to the player. The idea of being able to alter reality to suit your needs would be a breath of fresh air to many players who have become bored with generic 3rd-Person adventures where they spent hours trying to find a way around a particular obstacle.
The heroine, Rind, is both an attractive character and a very capable one. In combat she excels and seems to find enjoyment in the job, but at the same time she does have a calmer, peaceful side that appreciates the beauty of life and nature. It’s an interesting contrast, and one that should make Rind an interesting character to play and follow through the storyline.
