This is a rather silly story, but hopefully it will amuse my fellow Oh/Ah! My Goddess fans. At the least it can be considered a cautionary tale about what can happen if you get a little too anticipatory over any reference to the TV anime.
Friday night I was rewatching a Haibane-Renmei DVD (on the computer) while my wife was watching network TV when suddenly I thought I heard the early evening newscaster say something about "Oh My Goddess.... More later." I stoped my playback and asked the light of my life if I'd heard correctly. Had there been something about Oh! My Goddess on the news and I'd missed it?
She replied that she hadn't been paying attention, but something might've been said about "my goddess". So I watched the rest of the news with her, but nothing further was mentioned. Likewise the late evening news. But I was still concerned, so I decided to watch the repeat. In our area, the cable provider rebroadcasts that particular newsbroadcast on another channel at about 3:00 in the morning. So I got up that night to watch.
It turns out what I heard was "Oh my GOODNESS..... " And apparently so had my wife, based on how she started laughing when I told her the next morning. Apparently she'd heard it correctly the night before, but after listening to me moaning about not being able to see the new series for so long, had decided to see how far I'd go with the misunderstanding before finally realizing the chances of a Japanese anime series being mentioned on the six o'clock news (unless it's being blamed for a mass murder) are not particularly great.
For the last two days she seems to have found great amusement in finding new ways to use the phrase "Oh! My Goodness" around me and then snickering.
And the really sad part is there's still no way I'll be able to see the anime until the DVDs are released.
