I'd say neither. ;D
Mara is generally very middle of the road villain-wise. On her own at least she is usually too crazy (in a fun, wacky way) and soft-hearted (for a Demon) to really qualify as a great villain in my book. As dark and evil as many of her thoughts and words are, she seems to lack the willingness to put them into action. She is really only a truly great threat when under the command or influence of some more powerful evil being.

^ I agree with Perentie. You almost feel bad for Mara at time since she doesn't want to do these things. It's just her job, ya'know? Hopefully eventually Mara will get a vacation that isn't interrupted by K1 seeing her nude in the hotsprings!lol I would also like to see her and Urd finally make up. She doesn't seem to like Hild or her pushy nature so maybe we'll see her 'change sides' sometime soon. I doubt she will help the goddesses for long though! She does have her honor!lol Still it would be nice to have another demon in Tarikihongonji temple to help back up Velsper in arguements against the goddesses!lol

Longtime lurker of O/AMG! forums, here.
Mara is a comic villain and foil for Belldandy. If she were male and western, she'd be twirling her mustache and tying Keiichi to railroad tracks.
I appreciated the revelation that she and Urd used to be friends. But who knows if we'll see Mara's character developped any further?

Thank you, K-1-chan.
Well, I hope Mara is in the new anime... several exciting arcs from the manga involve her (Lord of Terror, Queen Sayoko, Demon Urd). I bet she'll show up.

You can "count" on her being in the new TV anime, she may even kick it off (first episode). Like most Fujishima charactors she started out rather one dimensional, but has since developed into quite her own personality.
Points to remember with Mara....
She's not evil, she's a demon. That means she's out to raise her standing in the demon realm by scoring points against the goddesses (i.e. frustrating their efforts).
The best way is to consider it a cut throat competition between two corporations where nearly anything goes. Demons in OMG aren't evil or really all that nasty, they just have their own agenda and value system and are motivated to achieve their goals by any means. (I think the Hot Springs exposure Keiichi saw was planned to upset Belldandy.)
Mara's ambitious, talented, and may have been personally selected for her job by Hild (although Mara may not know this). But she's basically a nice person, and sometimes it shows.
(The "real" Mara came out when she lost her memory in Sympathy for the Devil, that shows how much of her personality and actions are due to her training and the enviroment she grew up in.)
Urd couldn't be a friend to someone that was really nasty, and Belldandy wouldn't feel nearly as sorry for her if Mara really was a totally rotten person.

Oh I really hope she's in the tv series.^^ Doing more than she did in the Mini Goddess series... where she had a bunch of rat henchmen try to steal a cake or something to make the goddesses upset.9_9
Definitely would like to see Urd vs. Marller karaoke. Maybe something like her image song, Nekomi no Hito. Very cute Urd and Marller interaction. Just them using music against each other... gotta love the "Shake it up, Baby!" in Engrish.^^;; I think she does like to dance... she just wouldn't want to admit it. Kinda like "Oh no... I wasn't watching that show... I was just uhh flipping through channels" like. Or at least whatever causes her to dance makes her seem like she's enjoying herself until she can get enough control to beg for mercy... or cuss the person out.
But yeah, I think I agree that she's a bit of a softy.^_-
And now that I'm thinking about that song... Urd has one of the most annoying laughs. It makes me think of cliché villainess laughter.^^; But yeah, before I get more off topic...9_9

I love Urd's laugh! It's so over the top and maniacal.*correct spelling?^^;;* It's the kind of laugh that makes K1 and SKuld look at her and go= -_- 'uh-oh what's she thinking now?' lol You can tell Urd's naughty demon side is at work because of that crazy laugh! Urd amd Skuld are both mad scientist in their own way, one with machines and one with chemicals and potions.

I like Mara, in terms of being a truely evil and dark villianess, she's very bad, and really she pales in comparison to Urd and Hild, Urd's badsides, and even Belldandy's badside, i think she might as well be sort of equal to Skuld's badside, and with Sayoko's badside. Anyway the reason i think she's good is because she brings comic relief, at the expense of our dear Keiichi.

Mara (Marller? Marla?) seems more like a comic relief villain. I think that if she ever did anything truly threatening to the story's protagonists, it would be by accident or mischance. How threatening can a villain be if she's disabled by disco music?
As a character though, she's a lot of fun. There's a lot of room for her to grow in, you know? An interesting avenue for any fan-fic writers out there that happen to read this stuff.
I'd like to se more of her in anime though. She makes a couple of brief appearances in "Adventures of the Mini-Goddesses", and I reiterate, she's a lot of fun when she does show up. I'd like to see her grow into something more than just a comic-relief villain though.
