G'Day, In the past I had only read a fwe small arcs of this series - and seen the anime - but was recently able to get my hands on all 28 tankoubon released so far. Now I enjoy the series even more I just have a couple of small questions in relation to it though. Firstly, I love the cover art, but have only seen the (Japanese) covers for about a handful of the volumes - and even less of the cover slips. Does anyone know of a site that has more of them? I was able to see a couple of extras here, and I can see REALLY small thumbnails of most of them at Amazon of Japan (not much good though). Secondly, does anyone know why no one scanlates the fortnightly releases in Afternoon? A lot of the manga I read are scanlated shortly after their release in Japan, but the wait for the volumes of this seems painful. I would have thought this title would also be regularly scanlated. I would do it myself, if only I could read Japanese, and knew how to edit, and could get the raws in the first place...

I definitely agree with you. It would be easier for the Afternoon manga to be translated. It would not only be breaking the work up into smaller bits to scan and translate, but more economical (many people throw away Afternoon after reading it like a newspaper or a magazine). The reason (just a guess ) why no one scanlates it would probably be that the paper is of a different quality, and would therefore look different when scanned and edited. oh well, probably wrong...

Despite AMG being a rather popular manga, no one has really tried to adopt it for a project for along time. The early releases were scans of the Dark Horse manga, the origin of which I am not sure of. Starting volume 15 up to 27, HemisH and a few other people did it though a formal group was never formed. Starting volume 27 though, an unnamed group picked up the project and released a version of v27 before HemisH's. This group also released volume 28. Only after 28 volumes has AMG been picked up by an formally-named group, the Goddess Miyaku Team (GMT). GMT released an extra-HQ version of v28 a while back which also included some corrections in the original translation.
To brighten up your day, GMT will soon be releasing AMG chapters taken from the chinese equivalent of Afternoon. The quality of the scans are very good, much higher than the raws floating around some Chinese websites like AMGNN. The releases will not probably make it to http so just visit the #belldandy at irc.irchighway.net to catch the releases via BT or fileserver.

Thanks for that information: I look forward to hearing about those releases! I cannot wait to see how the battle between Belldandy and Hild ends I cannot use IRC from my own PC (due to various reasons), so normally have to use it from other people's PC, but the releases will probably be mirrored on ckmoney, so I'll hopefully be able to catch them from there. I'll be monitoring DailyManga more closely than before from now on

Just out of curiousity.... does anyone know of any places besides Nekomi Kodai (which hasn't updated in almost a year) that just has translations? I buy the Japanese volumes but I sure don't know the language.^^; And if anyone is in touch with any of the people who "scanlate" the manga... I don't think it'd be such a bad idea to have just the translations posted somewhere. Especially since they've already translated it, I don't think it'd be too hard to post a text only version.
... just a thought. : )
(and sorry if this is slightly off topic... I figured it was close enough not to create a whole new post... really sorry if I've caused any sort of inconvenience)

Elric, I have a small zip archive with small scans of the covers of volume 1-25.
The vary in sizes and quality though, but I assume it's better then looking at thumbnails. If you're interested let me know.

G'Day WillTRiker, That sounds like what I am after! The scans dont have to be large enough to fill my monitor - just large enough to see I would love to get them: please advise on how to do so.

I know a couple of ppl who do it. They seemed swamped getting the scanlations out though. I think Watersoul had the manga pages posted up on his site. Also I did a goodle search for Ah my goodess scanlations and found a site that had the translations, but just like NK they hadn't updated in a while.

I don't think anyone would complain if high-res scans were available, though there's a difference between high-res and just too darn big As long as they are not like 15000x12000 or something, I think they would be nice

That's a good size - and about nine times the size of the v1 scan I had found previously

that image is at 25% size of the original scan, and the quality was reduced from 12 to 7 =P
but if you want it, i can post the first 20 manga's cover at that quality and size
*also the coloured first pages of every manga, which apparently the scanlations don't have*
I'll get a few ready for this weekend

XD *i'm no scanner expert, though Hey, I'd love to have scans of those! ;D I've been looking for a contributor for those scans for a long time since G2G's Color Gallery lacks the tankoubon covers from volume 1 to 20. Please contact me via PM or email. Thanks!
